We are seeking funding for our custom built, Brave Future learning hub.
We are bringing technology-enhanced, solar-powered education to one of the world’s most underserved communities: Kakuma Refugee Camp.
Through Brave Future, learners in Kakuma are accessing a global education powered by technology and resilience. In a region where resources are limited and opportunities scarce, the tools of innovation, electricity and internet, are transforming lives. Brave Future students have continually shown their adaptability, perseverance, and determination, refusing to let their circumstances define their potential.
Our learning hub is powered by solar energy, nature’s most abundant resource. This sustainable setup reduces reliance on the unreliable local grid and ensures consistent learning experiences. The hub’s laptops, purchased at a discounted price, bridge a critical gap, providing learners with the means to engage with a world beyond the camp.
Our internet access is currently supported by Safaricom, a local Kenyan telecom provider. While this connection is vital, it is not always stable or strong enough to meet our learners’ academic needs. Reliable connectivity is essential, not just for attending virtual classes, but also for research, collaboration, and digital skill-building.
Access to Technology = Access to Opportunity
At Brave Future’s Learning Hub, students follow the British curriculum, including Lower Secondary, IGCSEs, and International A-Levels. These internationally recognized qualifications prepare them for university admission, entrepreneurial ventures, and global careers. The education goes beyond academics, offering personal development, career exploration, and skills-building pathways.
The broader community also benefits. Adults and youth engage in digital literacy, entrepreneurship training, and language development. all of which support economic resilience and community growth.
As Karla McDermott, Director of Development and Outreach at Brave Future, shares:
“The education they gain places them on equal footing with learners across the globe. Their talents and skills allow them to shine, not just as refugees, but as future leaders, professionals, and innovators.”
Internet = Lifeline
For refugees, internet access is often ranked as essential as food and shelter. Our learning Hub doesn’t just connect students to lessons, it connects them to opportunity, knowledge, and the global community.
Challenges and Why Your Support Matters
Despite significant progress, there are persistent challenges:
Many laptops require updated software, preventing access to modern learning platforms.
Solar capacity is stretched thin with the increasing number of learners.
Internet connectivity is inconsistent, slowing down academic progress and digital learning.
Brave Future is actively seeking support to reintroduce Starlink internet, known for its reliability in remote areas and to obtain refurbished laptops with the latest software. Unfortunately, recent setbacks in international development funding have made this more difficult.
Just one solar panel can power a full computer lab for an afternoon. Imagine what ten more could do.
By donating, you’re not just changing lives, you’re building dreams.
Help us revolutionize education where it’s needed most.
