4 Things to Be Mindful of When Buying Activewear

Clients work: 11:11 Fit Apparel

When the quality of your health and wellness matters, the quality of your sweat sessions should too. This isn’t to say that how much you sweat determines the effectiveness of your workout. Other factors impact what you get out of your exercise for both your physical and mental health.

When it comes to fitness, a little more mindfulness can go a long way. When you show up to a workout, do you show up with purpose and stick it out with intention? It’s okay to admit that this level of consistency can be challenging to maintain.

Between the happenings around you to the self-doubts attempting to work their way in, your external and internal environments can get in the way. The more you lose focus, the more it pulls you away from your purpose. The best way to resolve this and remain in alignment with your intentions is to control the factors you can.

The clothing you choose to work out in might not seem like the most significant factor worth controlling on the surface. And that’s because the benefits behind selecting the right fitness clothes go beyond the surface level.

When shopping for workout clothes, there are certain factors to look for that have a bigger impact than you may realize. Here are four to consider:

Comfort and Stretch

Comfort is a no-brainer when it comes to working out. To clarify, by no-brainer, we don’t mean in the sense that it’s always easy to choose comfortable clothing. Not to mention clothing that fits, especially when you are shopping online. What we mean here is that comfort is a must-have.

Whether it’s for running, yoga, or lifting weights, look for lightweight and stretchy materials. Products made with spandex will provide you the best range of motion, allowing you to move without restriction so you can accomplish what you showed up to do.

Another thing you can do to ensure the best fit is to look closely at the measurements provided. So many of us want to rush and skip this step when we could save ourselves time in the end by taking one or two quick measurements before we buy.

Style and Confidence

By now, you are probably aware of just how much your clothing can impact the way you carry yourself. Clothing that makes you feel confident, whether for going out or working, can alter your whole attitude. This concept also applies to the gym - or wherever you go to work out.

When your clothing is confident, and your attitude is confident, you will exude an energy that says, I’m ready for anything that comes my way. Imagine how much everything could shift for you with this simple change.

Versatility and Breathability

It’s great if you have one go-to form of exercise - maybe you’re a runner or exclusively a yogi. It’s also great if you do not and prefer to keep up a healthy rotation instead. In either case, your clothing should never interfere with what you choose to do.

There will always be specific fabrics or accessories better tailored to a certain activity, such as the style of shoes you would wear running versus ones you might wear to lift weights. That said, there are fitness clothing staples that can work perfectly for any activity or temperature. You especially want to focus on this element if you love to travel because the more versatile your clothing is, the less you have to bring. Also, the better the fabric, the more comfortable you can be no matter where you go.

While you might be able to get away with a t-shirt for weightlifting, this isn’t an ideal style for when you are turning upside down in a yoga class or hiking in hot climates. Look for pieces that aren’t restrictive, but that hold you close enough to move with your body. Nylon and polyester are lightweight and breathable fabrics that will wick away moisture and help keep you from feeling overheated.

Longevity

When it comes to the longevity of your exercise clothing, it’s not just about fabrics and durability. The best thing you can do for your wallet and the environment is to steer clear of fast fashion. As you look around for fitness clothes, look for pieces that can become staples in your wardrobe. Look for neutral colors that you can mix and match and that will never go out of style.

There is so much to gain when we move with purpose rather than merely going through the motions. The first step you can take toward bringing more mindfulness to your fitness is to become a more conscious shopper.
